Welcome to the Perform & Engage 365 check-in. It's your way to let your manager know how your week's gone, and the place to ask for help or support. You can also say 'great job' or 'thanks' to your colleagues too through the recognition question (if you have one).
π‘Top tip: There's a short explainer video at the end of this article.
Getting started
You'll get a notification in Microsoft Teams to let you know that your check-in's due. This might be on a Friday, but could be on any day of the week, and depends on what your organisation has set. Click the link in the notification to open your check-in.
Completing your Perform & Engage 365 check-in
If you have Goals or OKRs set, you'll see two sections to your check-in. If you don't have goals or OKRs, you'll see one section.
Section 1: Check-in questions
You'll typically see between 3 and 9 questions. These have been set by your organisation and/or manager so are unique to your company and/or department/team.
There are a few different question types:
- Closed or tick-box questions
- Open-text for you to give more details
- Rating sliders
- Recognition questions
You can add attachments to your responses by clicking on the paperclip icon to the right of any question.
It's important for you to answer questions honestly so that your manager can give you timely, specific support and feedback to help your development.
A note on privacy
All responses are shared between you and your manager. However, your manager can choose to pass-up or pass-across individual responses to their manager or peers if they feel a concern needs raising or they want to showcase your positive feedback.
If you would prefer them not to share your response, then you can mark your answers as private, which would stop them from being able to do this. Simply click the available padlock π icon next to your responses.
π‘ Top tip: Answering check-in questions should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. It's a quick reflection, not a lengthy report.
Recognising others
Recognition questions give you the opportunity to say 'thanks' or 'great job' to your colleagues. It gives a real boost to receive these, so give it a go!
Simply type @ before their name (for example @Hannah) to pull up a list of people to choose from. The person being mentioned gets a notification, but their own manager can also view the recognition received too.
If it's been enabled, this can also be pushed to an all-company Microsoft Teams Channel, so everyone sees what a great job they're doing.
π‘ Top tip: Giving recognition feels great. But it also creates a snowball effect. Those who get mentioned tend to start mentioning others too.
Section 2: Goal or OKR updates
Update your goals or OKRs to see how you're progressing in real-time.
Simply click into the available progress box and update the value. You can also include any comments and attach any documents to give more context or clarity.
π‘ Top tip: When you update your goals regularly, you're more likely to hit them. That's because they stay front-of-mind. You can also auto-populate your performance conversation agendas with them. So there's no more scrabbling round to get your ducks π¦ in a row before your next meeting.
Submitting your Perform & Engage 365 check-in
Once you've answered the questions and updated your goal/OKR progress, you can either save it as draft or click to submit. This will send it straight to your manager. Even if they're on holiday.
π‘ Top tip: You can't edit your check-in once it's been submitted so give it a quick once over before hitting submit.
What happens next
Your manager gets a notification that you've checked in. They'll review your check-in and respond to your updates as soon as they can. They can do this by in a few ways:
- Like a response with a π
- Comment directly on a response
- Pass-up/across a response to their manager (if you haven't marked it as private)
